What Feeds Your Soul?

I would really like to know. What feeds your soul? What makes your heart sing? What makes you feel alive, excited, hopeful; what gives your life purpose? It could be something big and grand, or a small act that you practice daily to ground you or bring you peace.

I’m starting this blog because I truly want to know what people do to bring joy into their lives. My hope is that this will be a guest blog, where you can contribute and share your passions with others. Maybe what feeds your soul could feed someone else’s. It could be something creative or it could be something you do, like hiking in the woods.

I’ll start with a few of my own to get this started.

The obvious ones are my lifelong passion for knitting, my passion for designing and my newest passion for dyeing. There is something so gratifying in taking an idea and turning it into a new design. There are so many steps involved that keep my attention along the way. Sometimes a design turns out exactly as I imagined, sometimes there are some magical surprises and sometimes, they don’t work out like I had envisioned and basically fail. But those failures always teach me a lesson to be used for future designs. Now that I am dyeing yarn, there is the added joy of being able to work with the exact color on the exact yarn I want for a design. The two combined are truly soul-feeding.

Another recent big passion of mine is photography. During Covid, I bought a new camera and some really cool lenses. I discovered that I LOVE photographing flowers - especially if they have dew or raindrops on them. I also really enjoy photographing my work, which is an ongoing learning process.

I truly believe that my design work, home improvements that I did myself and this new passion saved me during the self-isolation period. And the photography got me out of the house.

I’ll hop on here from time to time to add some more of the things that feed my soul, but the focus will be on guest posts. If you would like to contribute, please reach out to me. I would love to hear what makes your heart sing, as I’m sure others would as well.

Here’s to finding joy when and where we can and sharing it with others.
